She is the author of The Healing Drum Kit and The Art and Heart of Drum Circles.
Since 2007, author and music therapist, Christine Stevens has been working in Iraq with the first music-based conflict resolution training in a war-zone. With a team, she trained thirty-eight Iraqis from seven different governances across Iraq in leadership of the drumming programs. According to one man, "I was amazed to see people from conflicted areas making music together." She also used the Strumstick as part of theis effort, with great success.
Christine is a big fan of the Strumstick and uses it regularly in her work, all over the world.
One way she uses the Strumstick is for what she calls Inspirational or Devotional singing.
This is a musical meditation involving simple rhythms and melodies on the Strumstick, and singing or chanting meditative songs or phrases as a musical way to start the day, clear the mind, relax the body, and connect with spirit.
Here are two videos Christine offered us to share Inspirational Singing with the Strumstick.
Her company is
Up Beat Drum Circles,
and much more information about her work may be found there.
Our thanks to Christine for graciously sharing this use of the Strumstick with us, and for the great work she does in building peace and community through music!
